If you are an owner of a French press, this write up is totally dedicated to you. This is all about cleaning your small appliance. Simply follow these steps, to clean your French press that ensure long life of this coffeemaker.

Cleaning Your French Press Daily

Regular upkeep is essential to keep your French press hygienic and clean. Here’s how to wash it regularly:

  • Enjoy your coffee till last drop, and let the machine cool down.
  • Vacant the coffee grounds from the carafe; you can use either your hands or a spatula. Try to skip using metal spoon, which might cause breaking of the glass. Or, you can fill the flask about halfway with water and dump the contents into a fine-mesh strainer held over the sink. This allows the water to run down the drain while catching the coffee grounds.
  • Dispose the grounds in the trashcan, not down the sink. Don’t panic if a few grounds wash down the drain, but dumping in too many could cause a clog.
  • Add hand-hot water and a few drops of liquid dish soap. Then push the plunger gently up and down till the water gets foamy. This will wash the inside effectively and take out remaining coffee oils.
  • Dump out the foamy water, wash with clean water, and work the plunger again. Scrub the inside of the carafe with a sponge or bottle brush. Then, rinse again until the water runs clear.
  • Dry out the inside with a clean towel, and set the French press aside. It’s now ready to brew some more great coffee for the next day.
